Air Taxis

Investors worldwide are betting hard on solutions to urban transportation issues. Most notably, and exciting is the concept of an Air Taxi. Despite the fact that helicopters already provide this service, white papers from start-ups have fueled the collective imagination about new aircraft concepts and infrastructure to make urban air mobility available to the general public.

We categorize air taxis as aircraft geared specifically for urban passenger transport with novel designs aimed at resolving the challenges that commercial helicopter operations face. Specifically, for an air taxi to be successful, it must deliver low-noise solutions with immaculate safety records.

Air taxis that we evaluate must have VTOL capability with a business model for mass public transport (i.e. fleet operations). Vehicles exclusively for private ownership or emergency/cargo transport are not considered.

in addition to evaluating the aircraft, we will pay extra attention to requirements for infrastructure, and the viability of business models. In many cases air taxis are not only competing with other urban air mobility concepts, but with traditional mass transportation concepts, including personal car ownership.
